Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Like many psychology practices, we are an out-of-network provider and do not participate on insurance panels. However, most major insurance companies cover some or all of the costs of out-of-network providers. Although we do not bill your insurance directly, we are more than happy to provide you with a Superbill if you choose to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. A Superbill is an itemized form with all the information your insurance needs for an out-of-network healthcare claim. Clients are responsible for full payment at the time of service.

It is important to ask your insurance about your out-of-network coverage before you begin sessions. Some important questions to may want to ask them are:

  • “What are my out-of-network benefits for seeing a licensed psychologist for outpatient care?”

    • *important codes to ask about are initial diagnostic evaluation (CPT 90791) and individual 45-50 minute therapy sessions (CPT 90834)

  • “What percentage of the cost is covered?”

  • “Do I have a deductible for mental health services, and if so, how much?”

  • “Is there a limit on the number of sessions I can have per year?”

  • “How can I submit a claim?”

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently only offering teletherapy via a HIPAA-compliant platform. You must be physically located in one of the following states in order to receive virtual services: AL, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MI, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WI, WY

What can I expect from therapy?

After we complete our initial 15 min complimentary phone consultation to determine fit for our services, we will schedule an initial intake evaluation session. This initial intake session will be used to gather information to best inform your treatment plan and discuss goals and expectations for treatment. From then, treatment will be customized to you. The most common and effective frequency for ongoing therapy is 45-50 minute weekly sessions. Our goal is to help you become your own therapist so that you do not need to engage in therapy forever.

What is a psychology associate?

A psychology associate in Washington, DC is a professional with a Masters or Doctoral level degree who provides psychological services and activities under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.

Do you prescribe medication?

As we are a team made up of clinical psychologist and masters level clinician, we do not prescribe medication. Sometimes a combination of medication and psychotherapy offers the best opportunity for treatment outcome. If the inclusion of medication feels like the best course of action for you, we can help you connect to a prescribing provider in your area. If this is the case, or if you already have a prescribing provider, we will collaborate closely with them, with your permission, to ensure continuity of care.
